BIODIVERSITY * 2010 International Year of Biodiversity

The United Nations have declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. It is an invitation to celebrate the variety of life on earth and aims to make us sensitized about the necessity of protecting this irreplaceable natural wealth. The Expo of Saint-Hyacinthe associates itself to the event with the thematic "An agriculture in mutation: caretaker of biodiversity". Among the new living species, we will exhibit different types of turtles native to Quebec. The sectors of grand cultures and horticulture are especially highlighted this year. Children are also invited to live the "Grow a flower yourself" experience.

AGRICULTURAL PAVILIONS

Agriculture at everyone's reach! Come see more than 2000 farm animals: cows, horses, pigs, goats and sheeps. Come discuss with their raisers. You can also assist the many agricultural contests.

THE FARMYARD

Dozens of rare bird species, including the Chantecler poultry, populate our aviaries. Witness the very moment of birth of young chicks under the dome of our hatchery!

RACES SHOW

The most beautiful animals, the most sought races from Quebec and a daily demonstration of cow milking. Especially worthy of mention: the presence of the famous clone of Starbuck, Hanoverhill Starbuck II, born in 2000 in Saint-Hyacinthe. This is what awaits you in this educative exposition.

TEXTILE ARTS

Admire the most beautiful works of craftsmen and craftswomen, members of local agricultural societies, and demonstrations of diverse weaving, embroidery and quilting techniques. Also, don't miss the laceworks and sashiko stitching.

AGRICULTURAL CONTESTS

Animal conformation, which is to say the strength, health and good shape of the animal has a considerable role in it’s productivity. The agricultural contests of the Expo de Saint-Hyacinthe allows comparison between the animals to determine the one which presents the optimal features and best conformation for their race. It is an important step for the commercial growth at the international level of multiple enterprises which have their origins in Quebec.

Cactuses at the Expo!

Gardening secrets from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm everyday from friday 23th to saturday 31st of July at the BMO Center.

Many thinks that cactuses live only in warm countries. Well, don't be fooled! They grow very well in Sainte-Madeleine! Indeed, Cactée *, center for interpretation of desertic flora will be at the Expo for special conferences related to the international year of Biologic Diversity. They will present series of workshops concerning, not only cactuses, but also horticulture in it's large sense.
